On Friday 14th December 2007 a FREE bicycle clinic will be held at the Walker Hall, Troon from 9 am to 1 pm.

As well as providing FREE bike checks, cycling experts will give advice on safe cycling, bike security and cycling in general. There will be a range of free safety related bike items for people to take away and the opportunity to enter a prize draw for the chance to win a cycling pack containing a high visibility belt, rear cycle light, cycling milometer and cycle repair toolkit.

Councillor Peter Convery, South Ayrshire Council’s Portfolio Carrier for Sustainability and the Environment said: “I would urge people to take along their bicycles and get them checked for free. It is important to maintain a bike so that it is safe to use either on or off road, so cyclists make a point of going along to the Walker Hall in Troon and get some free expert advice. The aim of the event is to encourage people to get out and about on their bikes and to make sure that they are safe to ride, this is specially important at this time of the year when more people cycle when it is dark.

The free bike checks will be carried out by experts and each bike will get an ‘MOT’ service. After a bike has been examined its owner will be told about the general condition of their bike, any repairs that are needed and provided with general information on how they should look after the bike.

A representative from Strathclyde Police will be at the bike event to give information on safe cycling and bike security.
