South Ayrshire Youth Forum are making a DVD that will portray the life, art, warfare, serfdom and music from the period when the Kings of Scotland used Dundonald Castle as a Hunting Lodge.

The Forum, who secured funding from The Heritage Lottery to make the short film , have commissioned Nuarts Productions Limited to produce a DVD for them.

Councillor John Hampton, South Ayrshire Council’s Youth Champion who attended the project launch at the Visitors Centre of Dundonald Castle said: The historical information presented in the DVD has been specifically scripted to appeal to young people in the 21st century. The film has been researched and will be developed by young people, then shot on location and inside Dundonald Castle. The youngsters creating the film will also be involved in the editing of the film so that the finished work reflects what they set out to achieve. This project shows the creative talents and enthusiasm that some young people have for history.”

The Friends of Dundonald Castle hosted the launch of the film project and provided a warm welcome for guests.

Councillor Margaret Toner, Depute Leader of the Council and Portfolio Carrier for Community Services said: “All the young people involved in this project have had a significant input into the development of the film. Being involved in this project will enhance their existing skills and teach them new ones. Once completed, I am sure that the film will be educational, interesting and entertaining and I am really looking forward to seeing it.”

Any young people in South Ayrshire who would like to become involved in the project should contact Martin Caird, the Secretary of the South Ayrshire Youth Forum on telephone number 01292 266171.
