Council Tax Collection Rate Continues to Rise
At 30 April 2008 South Ayrshire Council has a Council Tax collection rate of 1.47% that is above the set target of 1.34%.
Councillor Bill McIntosh, the Council’s Portfolio Carrier for Resources and Performance said: “The South Ayrshire Council Tax collection figures last year were much improved on previous years. Already at the start of this financial year they are already above the target level. This is a reflection on the people of South Ayrshire who are paying promptly and to the Financial services staff who duty it is to undertake the collection.
“Year on year we strive to improve our collection rates and this is being achieved because of the majority of people in South Ayrshire who pay their Council tax promptly. The Council appreciates this co-operation, receiving payments on time helps us to continue to delivery vital services in South Ayrshire.
“Council Tax has to be paid and the Financial services staff are committed to rigorously pursuing anyone who does not pay. By working together I hope that the Council can achieve even higher collection rates in the future.”
The number of properties in South Ayrshire is increasing due to new building developments, with these Council Tax receipts being used to assist with the additional delivery demands on local services. The Council is keen to encourage all council tax payers to pay their Council tax by direct debit due to its convenience, and also as it is the most cost efficient method of payment for the Council.
