South Ayrshire Council annually reviews charges for using their golf facilities and the charges for 2008 have now been set. Each year a number of factors are taken into account when the prices are being set, including user statistics and market trends. The Council’s golf service supports over 250,000 rounds of golf on eight golf courses. South Ayrshire is recognised as a world class golf venue, that regularly hosts the Open golf championship and attracts golfers from all over the globe who enjoy playing on some of the finest golf courses in the world. Councillor Margaret Toner, the Portfolio Carrier for Community Services said: “The fees charged for playing on Council golf courses give very good value to local and visiting players. The courses are all maintained to a very high standard by highly skilled and motivated staff. “Many young people in South Ayrshire have been inspired to take up golf after watching others play the game and the South Ayrshire Junior Golf Action Plan recognises the need to encourage these players. Young players need to be developed and nurtured so that hopefully South Ayrshire can produce world champion golfers in the future. That is why the Council offers such good value to junior golfers.” A Council golf subscription makes a wonderful Christmas present as it is a gift that can be enjoyed all year round. Details of charges for all Council golf facilities in South Ayrshire can be located on the Council’s website at www.south-ayrshire.gov.uk/golf or by contacting staff on telephone number 01292 616255.
