Sitting in the sun at Arcon Court is a pleasure for residents and visitors now that it has been landscaped.

Residents of South Ayrshire Council's Sheltered Housing Unit at Arcon Court in Mossblown, along with their invited guests, enjoyed a summer garden party to celebrate being awarded funding by 'Awards for All'.

Following a successful application for funding from the National Lottery 'Awards for All' the residents of Arcon Court received £7,520 to improve their facilities.

Staff at the unit consulted the residents of the 19 homes to see what they would like the funding to be used for. It was decided to use it to landscape the garden area and to buy garden furniture, a barbecue, a 42" plasma screen television, a computer, a webcam, a camcorder and a digital camera.

Local Councillor John Allan visited the residents to see for himself the improvements, he said: "The Sheltered Housing Unit in Arcon Court enables residents to retain a high degree of independence within their homes. However, Council employees are available to give support to anyone who needs it, and really to act a good neighbour to the residents.

"I was interested to see what the funding has been used for and was delighted to see that it has provided extra facilities that all the residents will be able to enjoy. The Sheltered Housing Unit plays an active part in their community with people of all ages regularly visiting and spending time with residents."

Many organisations have supported Arcon Court residents, including the Council, Strathclyde Police and Ayr and Prestwick Lions Club who helped to provide additional electrical goods for the kitchen in the communal house so that the residents could start a breakfast and lunch club.

The garden party was a real community affair with the Drumley Inn donating food for the event and family and friends of the residents donating refreshments.
