Launch Of Troon  In Bloom 2007

All the primary and secondary schools in Troon and Queen Margaret Academy in Ayr have been involved in preparations to enhance Troon with innovative floral displays as part of Troon in Bloom 2007.

Last year Troon was given a Merit Award from Beautiful Scotland in Bloom, which was accepted by South Ayrshire Council’s Provost Winifred Sloan on behalf of the Council and the people of Troon.  The award followed an application by members of Troon Community Council to the Beautiful Scotland in Bloom awards asking for Troon to be considered for an award.  The assessors looked at the floral displays and various garden areas to see if the town had reached the standards required to gain a Neighbourhood Awareness Award.

Now the people of Troon are aiming high and hoping to gain further awards for their floral displays and people from all parts of the community have been involved.

Provost Sloan went to the launch of Troon in Bloom 2007 that was marked with a heritage exhibition of work presented by P5 schools in the town.  The P5 pupils presented their work to guests and members of the Troon in Bloom Working Group within the Walker Halls in Troon.

Provost Sloan said:  “The enthusiasm and imagination of the young people involved in this project knows no bounds.  All the schools are involved and each one has approached the project differently, and each school has brought something unique to it.

“These young people, and others in Troon who are working with them, are demonstrating civic pride in a practical way.  The streets of Troon are going to be a riot of colour that will be enjoyed by local people and visitors.  I wish the Troon in Bloom 2007 team every success in the months to come.”

The exhibition will remain in the Walker Hall from 14 June to 22 June 2007 and will be open to the public each weekday between 10 am and 12 noon.  Visitors and Troon residents will be able to take a tour of the display produced by the children and the artist who has been working with them, Pamela So from Fablevision.

All local primary school pupils along with pupils from Marr College and Queen Margaret Academy have planted tubs of flowers to reflect their school colours.    The tubs will form colourful displays around the town and each school will also have a banner created by them flying from lampposts in the town creating avenues of colour and creativity.

Members of Troon Youth Club wanted to be involved in the project and that have planted up spectacular colourful floral displays as their contribution to Troon in Bloom.

Provost Winifred Sloan attended the exhibition, saw the displays and had a chance to learn more when she talked with pupils from the local schools.
