Ayr Racecourse Safety Certificates

Members of South Ayrshire Council’s Community Safety Committee have confirmed that Safety Certificates for Ayr Racecourse will remain in force,  following an annual inspection of the premises and a report to the Committee.

Ayr Racecourse is covered by the provisions of the Fire Safety and Safety of Places of Sport Act 1987.  Part III of the Act applies to Sports grounds which provide covered accommodation in stands for spectators but are not designated sports grounds in terms of the Safety of Sports Grounds Act 1975.  Safety Certificates require to be issued for grandstands that provide covered accommodation for 500 or more spectators.

Ayr Racecourse has two grandstands that are classed as regulated stands, the Club Stand, known as the Princess Royal Stand, and the Eglinton Stand.

The Safety Certificates cover only the grandstands, their associated entrances and exits, and the concourses on front of the stands, and exclude other areas such as the Eglinton Rooms, Craigie Stand and Western House.
