Gaiety Theatre’s Circle Bar Opens

South Ayrshire Council Provost Winifred Sloan took part in the official opening of the refurbished Circle Bar in the Council’s Gaiety Theatre in Ayr.

The Circle Bar has been refurbished with funds raised by the ‘Friends of the Gaiety’ and was officially opened by Mary Lee Milroy, the widow of the late Jack Milroy MBE.  Provost Sloan and Mary Lee Milroy cut a ribbon to mark the occasion and a plaque, dedicated to the memory of Jack, has been placed in the bar.

Provost Sloan said:  “The Gaiety Theatre is one of Scotland’s oldest and most loved theatres.  The Friends of the Gaiety work very hard to raise funds by organising fashion shows, coffee mornings, Scottish gala evenings and many other events.  They then generously donate the proceeds to the Gaiety.  The Circle Bar is looking very good and I am sure that many people will enjoy using it.”

Also present at the opening was Johnny Beattie MBE, Anne Fields and the Alexander Brothers.  Many other famous artists have appeared at the Gaiety Theatre including many Jimmy Logan, Jack Milroy, Alec Finlay, Rikki Fulton and Stanley Baxter, Kenneth McKellar, Moira Anderson, Helen Shapiro and Frankie Vaughn.

The cutting of a ribbon marked the official opening of the Circle Bar, joining in the fun are (left to right) Ena Erskine Chair of the Friends of the Gaiety, Councillor Margaret Toner, Deputy Leader of South Ayrshire Council, Provost Winifred Sloan, Johnny Beattie MBE and Mary Lee Milroy.
