Braehead Pupils Keep Recycling

Members of the Eco Committee at Braehead Primary School in Ayr, along with other pupils, staff, parents and guardians have been collecting old mobile telephones and empty ink cartridges for recycling.

Eco Committee members have been encouraging pupils to put items for recycling into special containers within the school, when they are full a company called ‘Recycool’ collects the items and takes them away to be recycled.  The company pays the school for the items it removes and these funds are then used within the school.

Councillor Pam Paterson, the Convener of South Ayrshire Council’s Lifelong Learning Committee visited the school to speak to some of the pupils and staff about the project.  Councillor Paterson said:  “It is good that the pupils are interested in recycling and that people connected with the school are helping pupils to collect old mobile telephones and used ink cartridges.

“Very importantly the pupils have an excellent understanding of why we all need to recycle as much as we can to preserve the planets resources and to cut down emissions.”
