Free Bike Safety Checks
On Thursday 21 June 2007, as part of national Bike Week, a bike clinic will be held at Ayr Railway Station between 10 am and 2 pm. A wide range of cycling related information will be available, there will be ‘freebies’ for people to take away and an opportunity for bike owners to get their bikes checked for free.
Cycling is increasing in popularity, with people of all ages choosing to use their bike as transport to and from school or work, or to exercise and relax in their recreation time. It is important to maintain a bike so that it is safe to use either on or off road.
The aim of the event is to encourage people to get out and about on their bikes and to make sure that they are safe to ride.
The free bike checks will be carried out by staff from a local cycle shop who will give each bike an ‘MOT’ service. After a bike has been examined its owner will be told about the general condition of their bike, any repairs that are needed and provided with general information on how they should look after the bike.
A representative from Strathclyde Police will be at the bike event to give information on safe cycling and bike security. SPT (Strathclyde Partnership for Transport) will also have a representative there who will be able to advise on taking bikes on trains, cycling across the SPT region and provide information on local cycling clubs.
