Assistant Chief Executive Appointed
Eileen Howat has been appointed as Assistant Chief Executive of South Ayrshire Council with immediate effect and will be responsible for Finance, ICT, Corporate Policy and Communications and Human Resources.
Speaking about her appointment Eileen said: “I am very pleased that the Council has appointed me to the newly created post of Assistant Chief Executive and am looking forward to the challenges this demanding post will bring.
“I will be working closely with the Chief Executive, Councillors and Officers to provide, and wherever possible improve, the delivery of Council services to the people of South Ayrshire. With the assistance and support of dedicated staff across the Council I will be doing everything I can to make best use of the resources available.”
Educated at Irvine Royal Academy before going on to graduate from Strathclyde University Eileen has held a range of posts in local government since she started her financial career, joining South Ayrshire Council in 1996 as Strategy and Funding Manager within the Council’s Finance Department, having previously served within the Finance Department of Strathclyde Regional Council since 1984. Appointed as the Council’s Head of Finance in 2002 and Head of Finance and ICT in 2004 Eileen became a member of the Chief Executive’s Corporate Management Team. In recent months Eileen has also been Acting Head of Human Resources.
Councillor Hugh Hunter, the Leader of South Ayrshire Council said: “In her previous roles Eileen has already made a valuable contribution to the Council using her wide range of skills and knowledge. She has demonstrated outstanding flair and a strong commitment to the people of South Ayrshire and I am confident that in her new post as Assistant Chief Executive she will use that flair and commitment to ensure that the services provided by South Ayrshire Council are the very best that they can be.”
