South Ayrshire Council library staff have been listening to comments from people who use the mobile library facilities in Alloway, and after considering them, have decided to change the mobile library timetable for that area.

Alloway Library is currently being demolished and a replacement library will be constructed within the Council’s PPP project for Alloway Primary School, which is scheduled to be completed in August 2008.

Alloway library was closed in January 2007 and in order to continue delivering a library service in Alloway a mobile library has been operating five days a week at The Loaning.   The mobile library carries a comprehensive selection of material representative of the stock held in the library service including children’s books.   There is also a computer terminal on the facility that gives users Internet access.

Since the new service was introduced members of the public have been telling library staff that they miss having a place to meet and socialise with other library users.

After listening to the public, Council staff at Rozelle and library service staff have devised new times and locations that will start operating on Tuesday 29 May 2007 as follows:

By providing two locations for clients to choose from it is hoped that even more people will use the service.

Library users may find it convenient to use the mobile library at Rozelle House and then join with other users or friends and enjoy some of the free facilities there.  There is a well stocked gift shop, art galleries, displays, toilets, the café has recently opened and there are wonderful grounds surrounding Rozelle House.

The Council operates a mobile library service across South Ayrshire in areas not directly served by a branch library.  This covers a large rural area as well as villages and schools.
