Ayr Accident And Emergency
The news that Ayr Accident and Emergency services are to be kept open is being celebrated across South Ayrshire.
Speaking after the announcement Councillor Hugh Hunter, the Leader of South Ayrshire Council said: “The campaign to keep Ayr Accident and Emergency Unit open is something that Councillors from all parties supported.
I raised the issue at full Council meetings several times asking for the option of keeping open Ayr Accident and Emergency Unit to be included as part of the consultation and am delighted that common sense has finally prevailed.
I am confident that consultation on the new proposals to be brought forward by NHS Ayrshire and Arran will take full account of the views of the public before any decisions are taken as to how NHS Ayrshire and Arran deliver health care in South Ayrshire.
We must now look forward positively and work together to identify, retain and develop the best services possible for our communities.”
The campaign to save Ayr’s Accident and Emergency Department found many local residents including, doctors, nurses, ambulance staff, GP’s and others attending public meetings and marching in the streets of Ayr to let their views be known.
Councillor Nan McFarlane, Troon Councillor said: “Common sense has prevailed and now the people of South Ayrshire know that they are going to keep their much needed services. This just shows what can be achieved when people from all over South Ayrshire work together for a common cause.”
Saving the medical facilities in South Ayrshire brought Councillors, MP’s and MSP’s together to make sure that everyone got the clear message that South Ayrshire wanted the decision to close a section of the hospital reversed.
Councillor Douglas Campbell, Ayr North Councillor said: “South Ayrshire has a vast geographical area and extra minutes travelling to another accident and emergency location could have cost people their lives.
