PROVOST BRAVES STORMY WATERS

South Ayrshire Council Provost Winifred Sloan braved stormy waters in a tender vessel to visit a National Trust for Scotland chartered ship, the Black Prince, when it anchored in the Firth of Clyde.

Afterwards Provost Sloan said:  “It was very eventful just getting to the Black Prince due to the stormy weather but the journey was worth it. The ship is magnificent and provides a splendid setting for 400 passengers with similar interests to join together for a special holiday.

“The ship was anchored off the coast of South Ayrshire and as it was visiting at the time of the Burns Festival the passengers and crew were lucky enough to see the Festival firework display while at sea.  After the firework display the ship continued on its way sailing for Oban.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my visit on the Black Prince, and I hope that the passengers enjoyed their visit to South Ayrshire and that they return again soon.”

The National Trust for Scotland has been operating cruises for over 50 years and offers two cruises:

Scotland in Trust - a weeklong cruise around the Scottish coastline and islands that includes St Kilda.

Northern Lives – a two week cruise that explores life in remote communities of Norway, Spisbergen and the Faroes.

The National Trust for Scotland charters the Black Prince ship and onboard lecturers give passengers an insight into the cruise destinations through a programme of illustrated talks.  Musical entertainment is provided on the ship by resident musicians.
