Earlier this year a clean-up initiative organised by officers from South Ayrshire Council and local residents from Dailly Road, Miller Terrace and Murray Gardens in Maybole proved so successful that the residents have just done it again.

Skips were placed in the area and over the course of a week local residents, Council Housing staff, Community Support Officers, members of the Regeneration Team and Carrick Crime Prevention Panel worked together to further improve the area.  The Council provided everyone involved in the cleanup with safety equipment such as protective gloves.

As the residents gave up a lot of free time over the course of the week long initiative a raffle was organised as a way of thanking them.  A number of kitchen equipment prizes were donated by the Regeneration Team including toasters and kettles.  The Council’s Housing section donated £20 worth of essential shopping items from Somerfield Stores and the Carrick Crime Prevention Panel donated 3 x £10 HMV vouchers.  The Community Support Officers supplied refreshments during the cleanup event.

Keen to highlight the importance of disposing of large household items correctly, and in an effort to reduce fly tipping, leaflets were issued to all households advising them of the Council’s Special Uplift Service.

The Special Uplift Service is available free to all households in South Ayrshire on five occasions each year.  Any resident who has items to dispose of should telephone Council staff on telephone number 08457 697520 and arrangements will be made to uplift the items.
