Some of South Ayrshire’s top amateur photographers were special guests at an informal civic reception given by Provost Winifred Sloan – when the tables were turned and they instead became photographed!

The photographers were the prize-winners in a competition run in conjunction with Girvan Camera Club and Ayr Photographic Society.

The winning photographs are now featured in South Ayrshire Council’s  2007 calendar  which has been produced as part of the Council’s arrangements for reporting on its performance, building on information which we provided in the 2005 and 2006 Council calendars and in “Update” newsletters.  The calendar sets out an overview of some of the services that the Council provides, and how they have been performing.

The winning photographs now featured in the calendar will also be on display at the Maclaurin Galleries, Rozelle, Ayr, from January 17 to February 10, 2007.

Congratulating the photographers, Provost Sloan told them: “You have captured through the lenses of your cameras some quite excellent images of South Ayrshire.

“By your marvellous photography, I am sure you will encourage many, many people to think again about the rich and colourful environment in which we live.”

And there was a special word of congratulations for Matty Lough, a member of Ayr Photographic Society whose photograph entitled “Winter Sunset, Ailsa Craig” was selected as the overall winner and has pride of place on the front of the calendar.

This year, to reflect the view that not all households wish a calendar delivered to their door, the Council is making it available, free,  from Council offices, libraries and leisure centres in South Ayrshire.
