THE RESULTS 2006 SOUTH AYRSHIRE PRE-HANDICAP JUNIOR GOLF OPEN

Troon Fullarton Golf Course played host to the first staging of the South Ayrshire Pre-handicap Junior Golf Open on Monday 31 July.  The event was open to boys and girls between 8 and 18 years of age who have not yet obtained a golf handicap.

The seventy-three juniors who entered the event arrived to take part they each received a goody bag that contained fruit that was kindly donated by Asda in Ayr and a bottle of water from Eden Springs.

Playing off forward tees, each group was accompanied around the course by a volunteer from local ladies golf club.

With the emphasis being on participation rather than winning, one trophy was awarded for the best score in six age categories.  Irrespective of score, each competitor received another goody bag, with gifts donated by the sponsors, on completion of their game.

After Councillor Margaret Toner, the Convener of the Council’s Economic and Tourism Development Committee presented the trophies she said:  “The standards of play was encouragingly high with all the competitors playing in a very sporting manner.

“The event would not have been such a success without the volunteers who accompanied the players, who made sure that all the young people were well looking after during their round of golf.

“I would like to sincerely thanks all of the event sponsors whose generosity helped to make this event something that all the young people will remember for many years.”

The following organisations sponsored the event:  Asda Stores Limited; Eden Springs UK Limited; Gordon McKinlay, PGA Professional at Troon Municipal Golf Courses; Iain Crosbie Printers, Beith; Nationwide Building Society; Pro-sports Promotions Limited – Bunkered Magazine; South Ayrshire Sports Council
