A new co-ordinated themed approach has been adopted by South Ayrshire Council Housing Offices in Maybole and Girvan to reflect the needs of clients and to improve services for local people.

The majority of leaflets and posters on display in the reception areas during February 2006 will focus on financial advice and support. This theme has been selected to help people who have been overspending, particularly during the festive period. Housing staff will be on hand to advise customers on how to access Council facilities, and other agencies, who can assist them to recover financially whilst still retaining their tenancies.

A worker from an agency who delivers the particular service being highlighted will provide front line Council Officers with an insight into their work. This will enable the Officers to gain valuable information and will assist them to provide the best possible information to their clients.

Speaking about the new approach the Convener of the Council's Social Justice Committee, Councillor Cherry Young said: "I think that this is an excellent initiative and a good example of the Council listening to what members of the public have asked for and delivering it to them.

"Whilst both offices will focus on a number of themes over the coming year, they will continue to provide a range of leaflets on various subjects, and provide an effective service to clients."

Plans are already underway for future themes that will include 'Services for older people', 'How to apply for a Council house' and 'What's on in South Ayrshire'.
