Christmas Day In Glendoune In Girvan Community Safety Partnership

A group of older residents, who live on their own in the Glendoune area of Girvan, enjoyed Christmas thanks to a group of people who organised a free Christmas dinner and entertainment for them.

South Ayrshire Community Safety Partnership Community Support Officers, who work in the Glendoune area of Girvan, organised the dinner that was held in the Age Concern Hall in Duff Street.

The McCracken Trust and Strathclyde Police provided funding for the dinner with other generous people providing donations and helping in kind.

The 24 people who attended the dinner enjoyed a three course meal and entertainment that included a singer and a musician who performed Christmas and Scottish songs. There was also prize bingo and Santa popped in to give everyone a gift.

Members of the local community, including five young people aged between 8 and 15 years of age, gave up their time on Christmas Day to assist with the event. Everyone had an important job to do and the volunteers provided entertainment and helped wash dishes.

Local businesses and various organisations worked together to organise the Christmas dinner and donated items, these included: South Ayrshire Community Safety Partnership; Strathclyde Police; The McCracken Trust; Age Concern; Aroma’s Delicatessen; Brochneil Farm; Woodlands Farm; Jim Gilroy; Paddy’s Taxis; One Stop Pound Shop and Jane’s Delicatessen.

The Glendoune residents enjoyed their Christmas Day and many commented on how much they had enjoyed themselves and made comments like “It was an excellent afternoon, meeting new and old friends, the food and having an enjoyable Christmas Day instead of being on my own!”
