South Ayrshire Provost Winifred Sloan presented the winners of the Energy Agency 2007 Calendar Competition with prizes and the runners up with certificates at a ceremony within the County Buildings in Ayr.

A number of other South Ayrshire Councillors attended the ceremony to see the work of the talented youngsters.

An annual event the art competition is run by the Energy Agency in conjunction with South Ayrshire Council primary schools. The theme of the competition is “Save Energy in the Home” and entrants are invited to produce a piece of artwork to reflect this message.

Provost Winifred Sloan said:“This is the first time that I have presented prizes at the Energy Agency Calendar Competition as Provost.

“It never ceases to amaze me that every year primary school children think up such original ideas and turn them into works of art.It is very clear from the artworkthat the children have produced that they understand how important it is to be energy efficient at home.

“To each of the winners and runners up I would like to say congratulations and carry on with your artwork. However, every child who entered the competition deserves a thank you for the time and effort they put in to creaking their entry.

“I will certainly be displaying the 2007 Energy Agency calendar in my office next year.”

The calendars have already been printed and later this year will be distributed and displayed in a variety of public buildings and Council offices.

Provost Sloan presented the children with their prizes, and the local Councillor for the area of the school that each child attends was invited to the ceremony. The children then presented each of the Councillors with a copy of the newly printed 2007 calendar.

Thirteen winning entries have been selected, one for each month of the year and one for the front cover of the calendar.Courtesy of the Council each of these winners will be able to swim for free at one of the Council’s pools during the month of September, and they have also received a certificate and an Energy Agency mug containing a variety of ‘goodies’.
