Provost Delighted To Learn Of Ayr United Proposals
Following the announcement by Ayr United Football Club, South Ayrshire Council Provost Winifred Sloan said: “I have been delighted to learn of the ambitious proposals.” “The aspirations of the Club’s Board Members to move forward into a new era in the Club’s history will be applauded – and encouraged – by many. “The details that have been outlined by the Club will, I am sure, stimulate considerable excitement among not only existing supporters who have watched their team playing at Somerset Park, but potential new followers. “In the past, South Ayrshire Council has been supportive of a proposal by the club to move to a new location, however the scheme did not get off the ground because of a requirement for a linked retail development. “In general terms the Council welcomes initiatives which are of benefit to the people of South Ayrshire, either as an improvement to facilities, or as an attraction for visitors to the area. “Major activities, however, inevitably require consideration by the Council of planning issues. “This obviously is going to be the case with the proposals that have been announced by Ayr United. “There are clearly major planning aspects to be considered in both the matters of the creation of a new stadium complex, and the redevelopment of Somerset Park. “As with any major developments, the Council will ensure that appropriate senior officers are available to work with the planning applicants to provide whatever appropriate assistance they can.” November 2006 |
