SPRING CLEANING AT TURNBERRY
|
Members of the local community at Turnberry took to their local beach recently and spruced it up by giving it a spring clean. The community clean-up project involved representatives from Maidens Primary School, the local Community Council, Turnberry Hotel and South Ayrshire Council’s Waste Management Section. Convener of the Council’s Lifelong Learning Committee, and local Member for North Carrick and Maybole West, Councillor Alan Murray took part in the clean-up. He said “It was good to see so many people from the local community working as a team to tackle litter. “I was especially pleased that the young people from Maidens Primary School joined in, as they learn about litter and the damage it can do to the environment at school. Actually seeing litter on the beach I think highlighted to them the problems of marine related litter that can be washed up on our shores. “I would like to thank everyone who took part in the community project, and made the day such a success and such fun.” Over the course of two days everyone worked together to improve the appearance of the beach for local people and tourists who visit the area. Staff from the Council’s Waste Management Section supplied the volunteers with litter pickers, bags, gloves, and Turnberry Hotel supplied refreshments. All the litter collected was removed by Council staff and disposed of. Anyone who would like further information about waste management should go to www.south-ayrshire.gov.uk/wastemanagement.
