South Ayrshire Council - News - Review of Metered Taxi and Private Hire Fares

REVIEW OF METERED TAXI AND PRIVATE HIRE FARES

Members of South Ayrshire Council’s Community Safety Committee have approved set metered fares for taxi and private hire vehicles operating in South Ayrshire which will come into effect from 26 May 2005.

The Council is obliged, under Section 17 of the Civic Government (Scotland) Act, 1982, and Section 14 of the Transport Act, 1985, to fix maximum fares scales and to review these scales at intervals not exceeding eighteen months. The last review was completed with an implementation date of 17th May 2004.

In February 2005 members of the Committee agreed to a review of fares and to institute the requisite statutory procedure for advertising their proposals. An advertisement was then placed in a local newspaper inviting representations on the proposals but none were received.

Set metered fares will now be in place with effect from 26 May 2005 as follows:

Metered Fares	Cost
If the distance does not exceed one mile for the whole distance	£2.60
Each additional mile	£1.40
Night time Charge (12 midnight - 6 a.m.) per hire	£0.50
Waiting Time - For each 15 minutes or part thereof	£2.50
Fouling Charge	£45.00
Christmas and New Year – from midnight 24 December 2005 to 6 am, One and 27 December, and from midnight 31December to 6 am, and from 3rd January, 2006	One and one half metered fare
6/7/8 Seater vehicles – Where six, seven or eight passengers are carried an enhanced charge is applied (Except for the approved period at Christmas and New Year when one and one half of enhanced metered fare will apply).	One and one half metered fare

Fares for the shared hire of metered vehicles and all other charges in connection with the shared hire of metered vehicles, or with the arrangements for their shared hire, shall not be greater than those above.
