P&O ‘PLAY-A-ROUND’ DURING TROON GOLF WEEK
Excitement is mounting with local golfers and those who travel from other parts of Scotland and abroad to play golf in South Ayrshire, over the impending Troon Golf Week. As part of South Ayrshire Council’s commitment to promoting golf it has organised a week of golfing competitions for men and women, which will be held between Sunday 28 August 2005 and Friday 2 September 2005 including:
P&O has kindly agreed to sponsor the event, and keen to attract golfers of all capabilities, has publicised it locally and ‘across the water’. There is still time to enter competitions, however the closing date for entries is Monday 15 August 2005. Looking forward to Troon Golf Week South Ayrshire Provost
Gordon McKenzie said: “I do not have a lot of spare time, but when I do I like nothing better than to take to the golf course and enjoy a round of golf with my friends. The Council courses are in great condition, and a pleasure to play. “Troon Golf Week is not just about entering and winning a competition, it is about taking part, meeting likeminded people and having fun, and I would encourage people to submit an entry form.” James Esler, Sales and Marketing Manager for P&O said: “With P&O operating a successful twice daily service to Troon for the last three years we are delighted to be sponsoring this local event. Customers using the one hour fifteen minute Troon service have doubled this year and events such as Troon Golf Week continue to put Troon firmly on the map. So we wish the organisers and competitors a very successful week of golf.” Whilst at the P&O terminal in Troon the Convener of the Council’s Economic and Tourism Development Committee, Councillor Robert Campbell said: “One great benefit of Troon Golf Week is that local people know how wonderful the local golf courses are, and are keen to play on them in the competitions. An added bonus is that the high standard of the courses attracts many tourists, who holiday in this area, which gives a welcome boost to the local economy. “Importantly P&O provide a modern, comfortable and fast way to get to and from Troon, and I have no doubt that many golfers will be travelling on the service during Troon Golf Week.” Anyone who would like more information about Troon Golf Week, or would like to enter any of the competitions on line should log on to the Council’s website at www.golfsouthayrshire.com/events2005. Alternatively further information or entry forms may be obtained by contacting Pamela on telephone number 01292 617408.
