The Leader of South Ayrshire Council, Councillor Andy Hill said: "It is great news that Jack has been selected to become a member of the Scottish National Diving Development Squad. His determination to succeed, and his dedication to his training programme are what have made him the fine young diver that he is.

"I will be watching with interest to see how this potential champions sporting career progresses. I am sure that his parents are very proud of his achievement, and will continue to give him their support.

"I would also like to acknowledge the commitment of members of the Council's Sports Development Team to the diving training programme."

When The Citadel was declared a Scottish National Diving Development Centre in 2005, and Councillor Hill unveiled a commemorative plaque to mark the occasion. It was at this ceremony that he met Shannon Roy who is working closely with funding partners Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and South Ayrshire Councils to attract more people of all ages into diving, and to establish development programmes to identify and nurture talent across Scotland.
