YOUNG PEOPLE TACKLE LITTER
|
Children from four South Ayrshire Council primary schools have been presented with certificates to mark their contribution to keeping the area of their school free of litter. Council staff, including Community Support Officers, organised the special clean-up which the children from the four primary schools situated in the Ayr North Social Inclusion Partnership (SIP) area, Braehead, Good Shepherd, Dalmilling and Whitletts, took part in over the course of several days. To acknowledge the work of the children they had two special visitors, South Ayrshire Provost Gordon McKenzie and Convener of the Council’s Commercial and Business Services Committee, and local Member for Ayr Whitletts, Councillor Alex Cairns. Provost Gordon McKenzie presented each of the children who had collected litter with a certificate, he said: “Everyone in South Ayrshire has a responsibility to dispose of litter correctly, and help keep our streets and countryside tidy. “All of the children have set a fine example to other children and adults by tackling the litter in and around their schools. “I would like to thank them for their outstanding effort.” Each of the schools that took part will also receive some shrubs to plant in the school grounds, to act as a lasting reminder of the way in which the children have helped to look after their local environment. As part of the Council’s education programme to encourage everyone in the community to dispose of litter responsibly, and protect the environment, staff from the Council’s Waste Management section have an ongoing programme of education about litter within schools.
