Integrated Assessment Framework for Children in Need

Briefing Bulletin 1

NHS Ayrshire and Arran and the 3 co-terminus local authorities of East, North and South Ayrshire have developed and piloted an integrated assessment framework. The framework is based on health, education and social work services working together as equal partners with a shared responsibility for children in need.

This innovative work to improve outcomes for the most vulnerable children through better integrated children’s services adheres to the principle of 1 child - 1 assessment - 1 action plan. The assessment model promotes the systematic early identification of concerns about a child by all agencies from pregnancy onwards. Assessments build incrementally, as appropriate, to ensure that a child and their family receive the supports and services they need.

This is the first of a series of regular information bulletins about the Ayrshire Integrated Assessment Framework. It is intended to inform and update staff in all agencies across Ayrshire about the ongoing development, roll out and implementation of this initiative. It is intended to produce the briefing on a four monthly basis for 2005 with the potential to move to more frequent production as necessary when the roll out and implementation stages gain momentum.
