SCOTLAND-WIDE FREE BUS SCHEME FOR OLDER AND DISABLED PEOPLE

If you are 60 or over, you are entitled to free local bus travel in Scotland. The scheme also applies to disabled people who hold a local concessionary travel pass.

Concession card holders benefit from free local bus travel within existing concessionary travel scheme boundaries, as long as you travel outside the morning peak hours.

On 1st April 2006 the Scottish Government’s national transport agency, Transport Scotland, launches a scheme which gives older people and people with disabilities free bus travel anywhere in Scotland.

This is a major expansion of existing free bus scheme. It will open up opportunities and provide greater access to vital health and community services.

This extension to the concessionary travel scheme will help older and disabled people to access the national bus travel scheme and connect people and communities up and down the country.

Older and disabled people will need a new Entitlement Card to use the free bus service. People who live in the area covered by the Strathclyde Concessionary Travel Scheme will also be able to use the card to get cheaper fares on First ScotRail trains and the Glasgow Subway.

If you haven't already applied for your entitlement card for free travel then please do so as soon as possible. For more information see the Strathclyde Passenger Transport link below.
