| South Ayrshire Council’s Rural Communities Committee has approved requests for a total of £26,900 of financial assistance for a number of rural groups from the Committee’s 2005/06 budget.
Councillor Paul Torrance, Convener of the Rural Communities Committee, and local member for South Carrick said: “The organisations that have been given financial assistance by the Council’s Rural Communities Committee all play a very positive role in local communities.
“I am particularly pleased that a number of applications submitted by sporting organisations, who have clearly demonstrated an interest in providing facilities for young people in rural areas, have been successful.
“It is important that young members of rural communities become involved in sporting activities, as they occupy their spare time, help keep them active and healthy and involve them in local activities.
“I was also pleased to see May-Tag awarded funding to assist with the cost of employing a Rural Development Officer who will support voluntary groups.”
