PRESENTATION OF DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARDS
|
A total of 55 young people have received Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards at a special ceremony held at Jabil Circuits in Ayr. South Ayrshire Council celebrated the achievements of the young people from Belmont Academy, Carrick Academy, Kyle Academy, Marr College and the Domain, when the Convener of the Council’s Lifelong Learning Committee, Councillor Alan Murray and Barry Fisher, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Assistant Secretary for Scotland presented them with their individual awards. Councillor Murray said: “I would like to congratulate everyone who received an award. “The scheme offers a challenging programme of activities during which time young people learn new skills, help others and experience adventure, and on successful completion gain a great feeling of satisfaction. “The Council recognises the value of people taking part in The Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, and actively supports the programme in schools and community based groups.” Young people between the ages of 14 and 25 can participate in The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme, and there is no requirement for entry qualifications. Anyone who would like further information about The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme can log on to the national website at www.theaward.org or telephone Bruce Harris, Community Education Officer, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, South Ayrshire Council on 01292 266171 or e-mail him at bruce.harris@south-ayrshire.gov.uk
