CHANGES IN DONALD CRESCENT, TROON

A group of residents from Donald Crescent, Troon raised concerns about the increased traffic in their road with South Ayrshire Council, and as a result the road layout is to be altered.

Traffic signals previously introduced at the nearby Dundonald Road and Logan Drive junction had increased the volume of traffic in Donald Crescent. A number of residents requested that the Council block off part of Donald Crescent, next it its junction with Wallacefield Road, to prevent it being used by traffic displaced from the new signal controlled junction.

Convener of the Council’s Economic and Tourism Committee, Councillor Robert Campbell said: “The residents approached the Council and after listening to what they had to say it was decided that blocking off the road was the best solution.

“Wallacefield Road is a popular walking route for pupils to Marr College, and their school travel plan seeks to reduce peak hour traffic on the road and in the surrounding area. The removal of unnecessary traffic will enhance road safety for pedestrians.”

A Traffic Regulation Order will now be made under section 68(1), of the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984, to block off part of part of Donald Crescent Troon.

A full statutory and public consultation has been carried out, with funding for the implementation coming from the Council’s 2004/5 funding allocations for 20mph speed limits and other safety related works around schools.
