AYR UNITED AND COUNCIL LOOKING TO THE FUTURE
A further informal meeting has been held recently involving the Leader of South Ayrshire Council, Councillor Andy Hill, and Chief Executive Tom Cairns, together with Mr Donald Cameron, Chairman of Ayr United, Ayr United Director Mr Mark Meehan and Kenneth MacLeod, the Club’s Property Development Consultant. Discussions have taken place on a range of topics including possible future links between the Council and the club in a bid to “strengthen the club’s links with the community.” Representatives of Ayr United and of the Council recently undertook joint fact finding visits to both Ross County and Stirling Albion where the football clubs and the local Councils work together . Said Councillor Andy Hill: “We have had good discussions, exploring a range of areas where the Council and the club could work effectively together. A number of these would seem likely to be of benefit to both the Club and the Council.” Added Councillor Hill: “I look forward to building and developing close and harmonious working relationships at all levels between the club and the Council. “As a life-time football supporter myself, I recognise the benefits that an area can have from association with a football team which has a name nationally known.” Club Chairman, Mr Donald Cameron said: “The meetings that Ayr United is having with the Council are both positive and encouraging. There are a number of issues that I am sure the club and the Council can address more effectively working as a team. “It is clear that a constructive relationship is being established between the club and the Council.” July 2005 |
