AYR UNITED AND COUNCIL LOOKING TO THE FUTURE
|
Ayr United and South Ayrshire Council are set to consider the possibility of working together on partnership activities linking the two organisations for mutual benefit – and for the benefit of the community. An informal meeting was held recently involving the Leader of South Ayrshire Council, Councillor Andy Hill, and Chief Executive Tom Cairns, together with Mr Donald Cameron, Chairman of Ayr United; Ayr United director Mr Mark Meehan and Mr Kenny Macleod of Rockwood Property Development Consultants. During the meeting discussions took place on a range of topics including possible future links between the Council and the club in a bid to “strengthen the club’s links with the community.” Said Councillor Andy Hill: “We had a good discussion, exploring a range of areas where the Council might consider becoming directly or indirectly involved with Ayr United. A number of these would seem likely to be of benefit to both the Club and the Council.” The meeting was one of a continuing series of get-togethers involving the Council and Ayr United. Added Councillor Hill: “I look forward to building on this particular meeting and developing close and harmonious working relationships at all levels between the club and the Council. Hopefully any activity will be of mutual benefit for the Club, the Council, and most importantly, the people of South Ayrshire. “As a life-time football supporter myself, I recognise the benefits that an area can get from association with a football team which has a name nationally known.” Following the meeting Club Chairman, Mr Donald Cameron said: “The meeting was very positive and encouraging. There are a number of issues which I feel sure the Club and the Council can address more effectively working as a team. “I am delighted that we are developing a constructive
relationship between the club and the Council.” April 2005 |
