Alloway Primary is the latest school in South Ayrshire, to get a coveted Eat Safe Award. Alloway joins 14 other schools who have already secured this important quality standard.

All our schools have very high standards when it comes to food safety and hygiene however this award indicates that kitchens have gone beyond their legal requirements.

Councillor John McDowall, Sustainability and Environment Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council said:" Congratulations to the staff at Alloway Primary for this achievement and to all our schools who have worked to secure this award.

"We will always strive to provide the highest possible food standards and I am glad that our schools are receiving this recognition. An Eat Safe Award is a recognisable sign of excellence and we want as many of our schools as possible to follow suit and get their own award."

These schools have already picked up an award, congratulations to Barassie Primary, Coylton Primary, Doonfoot Primary, Forehill Primary, Heathfield Primary , Glenburn Primary , Monkton Primary, Carrick Academy, Belmont Academy, Queen Margaret Academy, Prestwick Academy, Girvan Academy, Kyle Academy  and Ayr Academy.

Introduced in Northern Ireland in 2003, 13 years later an Eat Safe Award demonstrates food hygiene and safety well beyond what is required by law. Eat Safe is awarded by Food Standards Scotland and is proving extremely successful as the number of catering establishments meeting the criteria continues to grow.
