Graduate Internship Programme at South Ayrshire Council

The graduate internship programme has been running for several years within South Ayrshire Council and has an excellent record of graduates moving onto further employment once completing the internship.

The aim of the graduate programme is to provide graduates with an opportunity to gain new skills and, most importantly, the experience that is necessary to secure future employment. Unlike many other graduate schemes the South Ayrshire Council graduate internship programme challenges graduates to lead a project from inception to completion.

As part of this process graduates will receive the necessary support and training to ensure that they are confident in taking their projects forward.

Our graduate internship programme is open to graduates regardless of degree discipline and a variety of projects will be available across a wide range of services within the Council. While in some instances we will align projects with interns with specific degree disciplines, our experience has shown that many of our graduates that were given projects that did not directly relate to their degree have also had extremely positive experiences, with some pursuing careers in areas that they may have never considered in the past.

Find out about some of the projects that have been available in the past and to hear what our graduates thought of the programme.

As part of the recruitment process, candidates who submit a successful application will be asked to attend an assessment centre. Prior to attending this assessment centre candidates will be asked to complete an online psychometric test (16PF). Additionally, candidates will also be asked to prepare a 10 minute presentation, the topic of which will be issued alongside the psychometric test. At the assessment centre candidates will be required to complete an in-tray exercise, deliver their presentation and take part in a competency based interview. All of the above selection methods will be used to determine the successful candidates.
