The development of quality private sector housing
is integral to South Ayrshire Council’s Local Housing Strategy,
which sets a strategic direction for creating and supporting
partnership relationships between the Council, Private Landlords,
Appointed Agents and Rural Landowners.
The South Ayrshire Voluntary Accreditation Scheme (SAVAS) also
discharges statutory duties in relation to homelessness as it
increases the availability of quality accommodation within the
private sector and tackles the concerns of landlords and tenants
alike in relation to management issues.
SAVAS is a formal means of recognising and confirming the good
property and management practices of those private landlords
who apply for, and are accepted into the scheme. This is an opportunity
to develop a new and more positive relationship between South
Ayrshire Council and private landlords.
Accreditation, whilst currently a voluntary concept, offers
landlords who operate good practices to have these publicly ratified
and, at the same time, distinguish themselves in a positive way
from other non-accredited landlords. SAVAS offers members the
following incentives, which will be added to as the scheme develops:
- Grant Advice (Private Sector Funding)
- Tenants Handbook issued to all tenants of voluntary accredited
landlords
- Private Sector Newsletter
- Access to training events and workshops for Private Landlords
- Enhanced Housing Benefit Processing
- Access to the South Ayrshire Mediation Service
Please note that there is no fee for joining SAVAS at this time. |
