Housing, Policy and Strategy

Local Housing Strategy 2010 - 2015

The next Local Housing Strategy will cover the period 2010 to 2015, and will have four themes.

  • Balanced Housing Markets
  • Housing Quality
  • Access, Advice and Support
  • Better Neighbourhoods

These reflect legislative obligations as well as interim findings from the draft Housing Need and Demand Assessment.

Local Housing Strategy Events

Steering Panels

A Steering Panel consisting of professional staff from a range of relevant agencies has been created for each housing theme. The Panel will plan, guide and coordinate the strategic action plans relating to each theme.  The outcome of these meetings will be posted in the ‘Updates’ section once they have taken place. Please feel free to comment or ask questions on these. Contact information can be found below.

Information Partnership

The housing team host an Information Partnership every year. This provides an opportunity for key stakeholders – such as community groups, tenants and residents’ organisations, service providers, housing associations ad developers – to share their opinions, and issues they are facing.
This year’s event will focus on Local Housing Strategy development. The outcome of these meetings will be posted in the ‘Updates’ section once they have taken place. Please feel free to comment or ask questions on these. Contact information can be found below.

Strategic Environmental Assessment

All plans, programmes and strategies in Scotland must be subject to a ‘Strategic Environmental Assessment’ or SEA under Section 5 of the Environmental Assessment (Scotland) Act 2005. The plan has to be considered in relation to the environmental issues noted in the 2005 Act, which are biodiversity, population, human health, fauna, flora, soil, water, air, climatic factors, material assets, cultural heritage, landscape, and the inter-relationship between them.

In terms of the Local Housing Strategy, a Panel has been convened to consider the outcomes in terms of the SEA issues. An environmental report will be written which will also consider the SEA issues, which will be available for public consultation. Please feel free to comment on or ask questions about the SEA process. Contact information can be found below.
