Housing Allocations Policy

General Information

Introduction

The rules and procedures in this Allocations Policy (the policy) apply to the allocation of all houses owned by South Ayrshire Council and let by the Head of Regeneration and Housing.


The Policy took effect on 1 February 1993 under Kyle and Carrick District Council and was adopted by South Ayrshire Council on 1 April 1996.

The policy has been amended to take into account the Housing (Scotland) Act 2001.

The Council reserves the right to change the policy at any time, but will consult with interested and relevant parties before doing so.

HOW TO APPLY FOR HOUSING

Applicants shall complete an application form. The forms are available from the Area Offices:

Staff at Area Offices can advise and assist applicants in completing the form.

The Council shall acknowledge applications within 3 working days.

Applicants shall provide their birth certificate and two forms of proof confirming the address of their permanent and principal home; this shall include, but is not limited to:

  • Official correspondence from a local authority, public agency, public or private utility (gas, electricity, water, telephone), government department, bank or building society
  • Current driving licence
  • Current National Health Service card

The applicant shall be informed in writing, of the outcome of their application within 10 working days of receipt of all relevant information.

Applicants who are accepted on one of the Council's waiting lists shall receive details of the points awarded and the effective date of their application.

Applicants who are not accepted on the waiting lists shall be given the reasons why their application has been refused.

Applicants shall notify the Council of any change in their circumstances. If they fail to do this their application may be cancelled or any offer of a property may be withdrawn.
