Opthalmic Services

You do not need to register with an optician. You can choose your own optician and do not need to see a doctor first.

NHS 24 can help you to find a local optician, or see details below. Once you have chosen an optician, all you need to do is telephone or call in to make an appointment.

You may have to pay for sight tests, glasses and contact lenses. However, you be able to get help with NHS costs.

The optician will let you know if they feel that you would benefit from wearing glasses or contact lenses after a sight test. If you qualify for NHS care, you will be given a prescription. You can take this prescription to any optician, which will allow you to look around for the best buy.

A full list of opticians are available from NHS Ayrshire and Arran
