Using the interactive maps on this site
South Ayrshire's interactive mapping is a map service that you view in your web
browser. It allows you to view Ordnance Survey maps with South Ayrshire Council
information, including office locations, schools, libraries, and elections information.
You can click and drag the maps to view adjacent areas or view aerial photography
of the location you are interested in.
Many of the maps available on this site have now been optimsied to run on Apple's mobile devices including
the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch (using a Wi-Fi connection). Specific help information for these products
can be found below.
Navigating South Ayrshire's web mapping
You can choose the mouse, keyboard, and sliders to navigate (move your view) in
two dimensions. To pan (move the map) do one of the following:
- Click and drag the map;
- SHIFT + Click to recenter; and
- Use arrow keys on keyboard to move north, south, east or wet
In addition, you can zoom in or out on the map by doing the following:
- Mouse Scroll Forward to zoom in;
- Mouse Scroll Backward to zoom out;
- SHIFT + Drag the mouse to zoom in;
- SHIFT + CTRL + Drag the mouse to zoom out;
- Use + key to zoom in; and
- Use - key to zoom out
Using the Navigation Controls
The navigation controls you see on South Ayrshire's maps include:
- Arrows - Click the appropriate arrow buttons to move the view north, south, east
or west or north-west, north-east, south-west and south-east; and
- Zoom - Click + to zoom in on the centre of the map. Click - to zoom out
Search (when available)
- Select a town or village from the drop-down list to redraw the map centred on this location;
- If you're looking for a specific location you can enter all or part of the address into the 'Find addresses of interest' text form then clicking Go.
All addresses that match your search will now be listed. Click one to redraw the map centred on this location
Apple Mobile Devices - iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch
If you’re using an Apple mobile device and you have Location Services switched on, then the map will automatically draw centred on your location showing a blue dot
close to or at your current position.
To control the map:
- Double-tap on the screen or 'pinch' the map to zoom in to show more map detail; or
- Tap once with two fingers to zoom out.
You can also:
- Click the Search button to display a list of towns and villages in South Ayrshire. Select one to redraw the map at this location;
- Click the Photo button to display aerial photography rather than Ordnance Survey maps. Click Map to switch back;
- Click the Locate Me button to redraw the map at your current location; and
- Click the Legend button to display how the map is being drawn.
Many of the maps also allow you to find out information held by the Council, such as parking or planning information. For these maps simply click on
one of these features on the map to find out about it.
