Maps and Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
South Ayrshire Council offers a number of online GIS facilities which are integrated
throughout this web site. A GIS creates maps from data pulled from databases and
both static maps and interactive maps are provided for a variety of applications.
You can find out more about GIS and geographic information from the Ordnance Survey website.
Please note that while South Ayrshire Council has designed these applications for
users on a standard internet connection, the maps are generated as images using
the Council's interactive mapping system and it may still take several seconds to
download each map image.

System Requirements
The interactive mapping applications on this site have been developed and tested
for Internet Explorer 5.0 or later (not including IE 8 Beta), Netscape 6 or later,
Firefox 1.2 or later, Safari 3 or later and Opera 8 or later on a PC and Safari
1.3.2 or later on a Mac. In addition, your screen resolution should be set to 800
x 600 or greater.
Also note that the use of 'pop up blockers' in your browser may disable some options
provided by this system. The latest Micrsoft Windows XP service pack also contains
a built in pop up blocker, which is switched on as standard. The pop up blocker
in this service pack may therefore disable some options provided by the GIS.
South Ayrshire Council also offers the ability to view maps with or without using
the Adobe Flash version 8 plugin. The Adobe Flash plugin can be downloaded and installed from here.
