GIS and Maps
Geographical Information Systems
South Ayrshire Council offers a number of online mapping or GIS facilities which are integrated
throughout this web site. A GIS creates maps from data pulled from databases and
interactive maps are provided for a variety of applications.
You can find out more about GIS and geographic information from the Ordnance Survey website. Help on using the interactive mapping on this site is also available.
Please take time to view the System Requirements, Accessibility and Copyright statements at the bottom of this page prior to using any of these interactive mapping applications.
Also, please be aware that while South Ayrshire Council has designed these applications for
users on a standard internet connection, the maps are generated as images using
the Council's interactive mapping system and it may still take several seconds to
download each map image.
A list of Council offices and facilities and car parking information for Ayr including address, postcode and location suitable for use with a
SatNav is also available.

Accessibility
Every effort has been made to meet the needs of people with visual impairment or other conditions that limit accessibility. Due to the highly graphical nature
of maps, the geographic information on this site cannot always be presented in an accessible format though many of the interactive mapping applications available on this site now support
keyboard controls for the map to improve accessibility. The information presented on these maps is also available in accessible
formats either elsewhere on this site or directly from the Council.
System Requirements
The interactive mapping applications on this site have been developed and tested
for Internet Explorer 5.0 or later, Netscape 6 or later,
Firefox 1.2 or later, Safari 3 or later and Opera 8 or later on a PC and Safari
1.3.2 or later on a Mac. In addition, your screen resolution should be set to 1024
x 768 or greater.
Also note that the use of 'pop up blockers' in your browser may disable some options
provided by this system. The latest Micrsoft Windows XP service pack also contains
a built in pop up blocker, which is switched on as standard. The pop up blocker
in this service pack may therefore disable some options provided by the GIS.
South Ayrshire Council also offers the ability to view maps with or without using
the Adobe Flash version 8 plugin. The Adobe Flash plugin can be downloaded and installed from here.
