Young People

Skills Towards Employment Project (Step)

The South Ayrshire Councils Skills Towards Employment Project (STEP) aims to improve the employability skills of young people who face specific barriers into entering employment, education or training. Priority is given to

  • Looked after young people and care leavers
  • Young Offenders
  • Young people who are homeless
  • Young people affected by alcohol or drug misuse
  • Young people with additional support needs
  • Young people requiring specific support when leaving school

Accessing the STEP service

Young people can be referred to STEP by Social Work, Education, Health and Careers workers. Young people can also self refer to the project.

More Choices, More Chances

Every young person referred to STEP is allocated a support worker. Through 1-1 work, the young person’s needs in relation to employment, education and training are assessed and an action plan is developed in partnership with the young person and support worker. Programmes of activities and learning opportunities are offered to support the action plan these can include

  • Team Building
  • Personal Development
  • Group Work
  • Literacy Support
  • Work Placements
  • Job Search and CV Building
  • Accredited Training
  • Volunteering
