Consultations
Forehill
The second edition of our dedicated newsletter for residents of Forehill, Glencairn
and Holmston on proposals for affordable housing and a children’s residential unit
in the Forehill area in Ayr is now available and being circulated to every home
in the area, keeping you up to date with the latest developments.
The proposals for the Forehill development mark an overall investment of almost
£2 million in new affordable housing in the area – including more than £500,000
from the Scottish Government – and are designed to address a lack of affordable
homes to rent in the area and the long waiting lists for the few properties that
become available each year.
They will also give some of the most vulnerable young people in South Ayrshire's
communities the opportunity to live within the proposed new modern purpose-built
residential accommodation for up to six young people who can no longer stay at home.
This would replace the dated accommodation that has existed for many years and is
no longer fit for purpose.
The newsletter details the issues raised during the consultation on the proposals
that took place in October and November 2011 and also outlines the actions that
have been taken by the Council since then including approval being granted in December
2011 to submit planning applications for 19 new affordable homes and an integrated
children's residential unit. The Council has also agreed to a feasibility study
into the potential improvement of the greenspace at Glencairn Park in partnership
with the local community.
We’re considering holding events in the park to discuss your concerns about green
space and to find out what you want to see in your park. We want as many people
as possible to get involved, so if you want to be one of them,
please submit your
details using our form
Three initial planning applications for the new housing and children’s unit were
submitted by the Council and advertised in the local press; however, some additional
work is required on the designs for the proposed housing developments in each of
these to ensure they meet all necessary planning requirements in relation to layout.
This means these initial applications will be withdrawn and replaced by three new
ones that fully reflect the required layout. With one exception, these are relatively
minor revisions and do not affect the principal proposals and designs of 19 new
houses and children’s unit.
Where it does have more of an impact is on the proposed Glencairn Park development
which, as the result of the changes, now needs to incorporate a small additional
piece of land from the existing park site. The impact of this will be fully considered
as part of our work with the local community to improve Glencairn Park.
These new applications will also be advertised in the local press and written notifications
will be issued to all properties within 20 metres of the proposed developments.
Copies of the planning applications and any related documents can also be found
on our planning section,
giving as many people as possible an opportunity to comment on the applications.
This is an important stage for the proposed housing and children’s unit development,
so we hope as many people as possible take the opportunity to comment on the planning
applications.
