How do I know if I qualify for help with school meals and school clothing?
Free school meals are available to children whose parents are in receipt of Income Support, Child Tax Credit Only and have a household income of £15,575 or less and Income Based Jobseekers Allowance. Children become entitled to a clothing grant if they are in regular attendance at school and their parents are in receipt of one of the following: Income Support; Income Based Jobseekers Allowance; Housing Benefit; Council Tax Rebate; and under certain circumstances Working Families Tax Credit.

How is a clothing grant paid?
It is paid in the from of a cheque which is payable into your bank account. If you do not have a bank account it can be cashed at any branch of the Bank of Scotland.

Is my child entitled to free transport to school?
Where children attend and live more than the specified walking distance from their catchment school the Council will assist with school travel by making available free school transport for all or part of the journey.

Who will arrange this transport?
Following the approval of an application the Council will make the necessary transport arrangements. Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) undertakes the organising, awarding and monitoring of school contracts on behalf of South Ayrshire Council.

Yes! The Learning Shop, 2 New Bridge Street, Ayr offers a free service to adults wishing to improve their Reading, Writing, Arithmetic and Basic Computing Skills.

Can I obtain School Records from South Ayrshire Council?
The Archivists Scottish Local Authority Group (ASLAG) guidelines state that log books can't be made public for 50 years after their creation date and admission records for 75 years after their creation date.

How do I make a comment or complaint about a school?
In the first instance your comments or complaints should be given to the headteacher of the school. Alternatively, you can contact Customer Services who will pass your comments to the relevant service.

How do I make a placement request for my child?
If you wish to make a placing request you must complete a separate copy of the proforma (PC1) for each child involved. Every effort will be made to meet parental wishes, but you should note that it is not always possible to grant every placing request to a particular school.

When do I need to register my child for school?
Registration of infant beginners for primary school normally takes place in the 2nd/3rd week of January in the year the child is due to start school. Please contact your local school for further information.
