John Bellany (1942-2013) is well known in Scotland, with his works in a number of Scottish collections. Born and raised in the fishing village of Port Seton in East Lothian, Bellany chose often to depict the life of the fisherman and the sea, and is best known in Scotland for his depictions of these characters and their way of life. This series is inspired by Hemingway's short novel of the battle between Santiago, an old fisherman, and a large marlin.
