Accident Reports

REPORTING OF INJURIES DISEASES AND DANGEROUS OCCURRENCES REGULATIONS 1995 (RIDDOR).

If you are an employer, self employed or in control of work premises, you are required under RIDDOR to report some work-related accidents, diseases and dangerous occurrences.

Reporting accidents and work-related diseases at work is a legal requirement. It enables identification of where and how risks arise and investigation of serious accidents by the the enforcing authority. You must report a death or major injury, an over-three-day injury (i.e. where an employee or self employed person has an accident at work and is unable to work for over three days, but does not have a major injury), an accident involving a member of the public who has to go straight to hospital, a work related disease and a dangerous occurrence (i.e. when something happens that does not result in a reportable injury but could have done)

There's been an accident. What should I do?

Follow the advice in Reporting Accidents Guidance.

I have been in an accident and no one has contacted me?

Your employer or the business owner (if you're a member of the public) may not have reported the incident. Not all accidents are investigated at the time although the circumstances may be followed up at the next inspection of the premises. Contact our Division to find out if your incident has been reported.
