Greening in the Home - Alternative Cleaning
- Alternative Furniture Polish - Two parts
vegetable/olive oil to one part lemon juice and apply using
a soft cloth
- Alternative Window and Mirror Cleaner -
Two tablespoons vinegar to two pints of water; add liquid soap
if there are streaks left by your own cleaner. Polish with
old newspaper and elbow grease!
- Alternative Kitchen Cleaner - sinks ovens
and work surfaces can be cleaned with damp bicarbonate of soda.
- Alternative Stain Removers - Lemon Juice
(also good for whitening cloths); white vinegar and tea tree
oil
- Alternative Spray Starch - Two teaspoons
of constarch to 1 pint of water, mix and use via a mist spray
bottle.

- Alternative Toilet Cleaner - Half a cup
of baking soda; half a cup of white vinegar and ten drops of
tea tree oil.

- Alternative Mildew Cleaner - Equal parts
of baking soda, water and salt and scrub! To keep mildew at
bay spray surfaces with vinegar especially in the shower area.
- Alternative Shower Curtain Cleaner -Scrub
curtain with vinegar hang in the sun and let it work its magic
- Alternative Hand Cleaner - If your hands
are covered in oil or grease mix together two parts sugar with
one part washing-up liquid and wash as normal.
- Alternative Air Freshener - one teaspoon
of baking soda, one tablespoon of lemon juice and two cups
of water. Once it has stopped fizzing stir and put into a spray
bottle and spray into the air as you would normally.
When using any of the above it is recommended that you test
on a small section of the item, out of view to ensure that no
damage or tarnishing occurs.
