District Courts

South Ayrshire Commission Area has 2 Courts located in Ayr and Girvan.

The District Court deals with a wide variety of criminal offences including Breach of the Peace, Assault, Theft, Motoring Offences and TV Licence evasion. The cases are brought to the District Court by the Procurator Fiscal who prosecutes the cases on behalf of the Crown.

The District Court team is responsible for:

  • preparing the Court papers prior to a Court sitting;
  • inputting Court results and subsequent correspondence, e.g. issuing fine notices;
  • sending notification of compensation orders awarded by the Court;
  • sending notification to DVLA of any endorsements;
  • arranging Means Enquiry Courts for persons who have not paid their fine as ordered by the Court.
