South Ayrshire Local Transport Strategy

Quality Transport Corridors: Funding was awarded to enhance the facilities for public and sustainable transport movements along the main arterial routes servicing Ayr. These are Prestwick Road, Whitletts Road, Holmston Road, Castlehill Road, Maybole Road, Monument Road and Racecourse Road. Improvements along the corridors include enhanced bus stop facilities with raised kerbs, tactile paving for the visually impaired and new shelters where appropriate. Other improvements implemented were new pedestrian crossing facilities, enhanced lighting and coloured road surfacing at strategic points to indicate to drivers to be extra cautious. Part of these works also included the installation of bus lanes along Whitletts Road and Ayr Road. Extensive prior public consultation was undertaken for all the corridors
