Legal and Protective covers a range of regulatory services which make life in South Ayrshire safe, healthy and and consumer friendly. Together Legal & Licensing, Corporate Safety, Environmental Health and Trading Standards make a considerable impact on our quality of life and protect us from threads of wide varying and unfair trading practices to major civil emergencies.

The Legal & Licensing Team has both an internal and an external focus. Internally they provide a complimentary legal service to the council and its Departments, covering Conveyancing, Litigation, Contracts, Debt Recovery and Committee Services. Externally, they are responsible for the council House Sales services, running the District Court (criminal) and providing a full Licensing service covering all premises selling liquor, all licences under the Civic Government Act, and preparation of licensing policies and practices.
